Shadows of icicles drift rhythmically
throughout the lateness of winter
and into its frostbitten nights.
They blanket the soil and bury its past
deep within the Terra Firma
that we have dug our feet into
while praying for spring to come.

Lovely and a wonderful pic!
ReplyDeleteYour photo says so many things. That trail is where one day an expressway might traverse. Animals follow one another like soldiers on patrol, or ten automobiles, each behind the other at a red light. In the lane(s) next to them is one vehicle--or none.
ReplyDeleteAs Ayala writes, it is a LOVELY AND WONDERFUL PIC!
I also love the picture. Did you take it? Are the animals cows?
ReplyDeleteYour poem is also very evocative of a gloomy late winter day...
Brava.
Thanks a million, Ayala!

TY, Dani. Yes, I did take this photo on a frosty walk in a neighbouring village. Those are brown sheep, woolly and hefty Dutch farm animals.
