Rock Along the River

©Shers Gallagher 2013

I feel the breathI cannot yet seeAll is changingas autumn busies herselfdistilling colours - yellow, gold and red, turningwith time that wears upon my facewhile youth robs melimb from limbYet I'm still here among the ruddy cattailsthat rock along the river

Grandmother's chairreminding me
of her gentle rhythmscreaking and groaningher soothing soundscrackling with wisdomShe now graces my hallsSoftly,
slowly, I reappear among the ruddy cattails that rock along the river
